Metaphorical
Saturday, November 14th, 2009Waiting for a baby to come is like waiting nine or ten months to open a Christmas present, but never being told what day Christmas is. Oh, and in this case the present starts opening all by itself.
Waiting for a baby to come is like waiting nine or ten months to open a Christmas present, but never being told what day Christmas is. Oh, and in this case the present starts opening all by itself.
On the baby’s “due date” we decided we had waited long enough to take maternity photos. Although “due dates” are assigned by the inexact science of pregnancy, knowing we’d reached the 40-week mark made it even more real that the baby could come “at any time” and we might not have another chance to photograph us while it’s still inside.
Since we’d neglected to arrange for a photographer to help, and it was kind of a spur of the moment thing anyway, we went ahead and had a little photo shoot by ourselves in our backyard with my Nikon D70. I am much more comfortable being behind the camera than in front of it, but Tim did a great job with the photography, and thanks to our new tripod we even have a few shots of the two of us together. After the baby is born we do want to get someone to help us take family photos, though. It would be much easier than using the tripod, especially without a remote.
So in the meantime, we’re still here, waiting on our little one to make its appearance, and enjoying the last few hours/days/weeks together as just the two of us. All I know is, this baby better come before Thanksgiving!
I stumbled across this post today - looks like a great thing to keep in mind for when we are overseas! You don’t realize how much you take for granted the pre-mixed spices you can find in the US, such as taco seasoning, until you’re in another country that doesn’t MAKE tacos, and you have no idea what to use!
(Along those same lines, the other day Tim found a recipe on another site for making your own chili powder, which we will definitely remember for when we’re back in Spain. Can’t find chili powder there, either!)
With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, I think I will definitely be using the pumpkin pie spice recipe pretty soon. Like, later on today.
There is a pumpkin spice latte recipe we’ve been longing to try, so what better reason? At a grocery store last night, I noticed a rack of holiday baking items, and was shocked to see how much they are charging for less than an ounce of pumpkin pie spice. No need to buy that when you can make your own! It’s always fun - and more cost effective - to make things from scratch.
Enjoy the seasoning recipes, even if you don’t live outside the US!
