It’s confirmed.

The noises I’ve been hearing in my walls at night are indeed termites, which have eaten almost entirely through my door frames.

Apparently it’s been an ongoing problem in this house.

Yet another thing I didn’t know about before moving in…

• Dan and Gayle Lippincott, the new MMC director and his wife, arrived last night. Unfortunately, their luggage did not.
• After several false starts, I’ve finally been able to make some headway with the DVD menu layout I’ve been working on.

There are a number of things to take into consideration when designing a single layout to be used for multiple languages:

• Is it readable and understandable both from Left to Right and Right to Left? (Arabic is written Right to Left, but the other languages on the DVD are written Left to Right.)

• Is there space for each chapter title to have two languages or scripts? (Some languages have their own written script, but will also need to have a translation in French or a transliteration in Arabic characters as well, because their own script is new and not widely understood.)

• Are numbers (ie: number sequences) to be written from Right to Left, as Arabic is, or from Left to Right?

As you can imagine, this added complexity has created a bit of a challenge for me in knowing the best way to design something that would normally be just a simple layout.

I peeled off the plastic wrap myself.

Like a child with a new toy, I couldn’t believe it was mine to use.

I’ve just received word today that the insurance company for my old apartment has agreed to reimburse me the money that was stolen in the robbery on June 30th.

I realize I never mentioned anything about the robbery on my blog; at the time it was just too hard to talk about. See what my door looked like the day of the break-in.

Praise the Lord that only money was taken, and even that will be soon replaced. Of course, as it is the insurance company we’re talking about, “soon” is a pretty optimistic word.

I realize this hasn’t been exactly weekly so far…

The last two weeks, Tim was out here visiting, so I ended up taking some time off and not working as much as usual.
