Ministry Update - September 12

I’ve been given the task of creating an intro, outro, and banners for the series Sermon of Jesus. We recorded most of the programs for this series earlier this year and will be having another shoot in a few weeks. I’ll be recording a piece of footage today, and next I’ll be able to focus on composting the video together to make the intro.
On the publications side of things, I was made aware of a need to reprint copies of a document our hospitality staff uses for orientation. Before printing, there is a need to revise some of the information and keep it up to date and accurate, so I’m planning to do that in between video projects.
The video server that Tim was testing a few weeks ago has more or less come to a standstill, once he realized that he doesn’t currently have the hardware to properly test it out. Apparently to test it he would need a bunch of hard drives, and we don’t have any of the right kind that would work for it. So, for the time being, that project is on hold for him.
Tim’s recently found a new setup for programming the web-based network media library that he’s been trying to get off the ground. He’s testing the possibilities that the new program will provide, and so far has been pretty impressed. He’s building it along the same style as Adobe Lightroom, an existing photo manager/editor, and is hoping to implement a lot of the same features (like keywords, groups, starring systems). This media library will hold the thousands of photos of Spain, North Africa, and MMC that have been taken over the years by staff and professional photographers, and will be expandable to include a catalog of video clips as well.

Video Shoot

We’re starting a video shoot today!

I’m on a camera that moves all over the place… and Tim’s going to be taking turns running a different camera. Today has been going kind of slow since it’s the first day of shooting and there are always things to work out in the beginning.

Pray for a good rest of the shoot! We’ll be continuing through till next week sometime.

Weekly Ministry Update - April 25

During the past two weeks we’ve been blessed with the help of Jenny, a volunteer. She has been working with other organizations around Spain, and we were privileged to have her volunteer her time to help out on some video projects here as well.
Jenny’s help has been greatly noted in the new “stock video project” we’ve begun. It’s a huge task to weed through the many tapes of footage in the control room and decide which clips are usable, let alone categorize them in a database like we’re doing! Tim’s been having a lot of fun programming a database to house all of this information (and eventually, compressed preview videos) for when our side of the project is complete. He’s hoping to make a searchable database versatile enough to contain both stock photos and stock videos. You can imagine how useful a resource like this will be to our work here! By typing in a search word, photos and/or video related to that word will be shown, and easily accessed across the local network.
The Communicate is nearly finished! I can’t believe we’re already this close to going to print with it. Our deadline isn’t even until next Friday!

Weekly Ministry Update - April 10

Two weeks ago we finished an Arabic video shoot for the second part of “Back to the Time of Jesus.” As the tapes were being captured, we discovered that because of a bad tape, at least one of the programs didn’t get recoded properly and won’t be usable. The rest of the programs are now in the editing stage.
I’m finishing up the first group of “Back to the Time of Jesus” programs - last week I finished the intro and outtro, as well as some banners (showing contact information). I’ve almost completed the last stages of putting everything together, there are only a few more things to work out before the series is finished.
A new couple - Rod and Becky - will be arriving today to join our staff. I was in their orientation class at Avant in 2005, it will great for them to finally be here. I believe they’ll be helping out in support ministry, with maintenance/accounting and hospitality. But, as is usual, jobs can only truly be assigned once new staff arrives. Tomorrow we will have a “welcome lunch” of chicken and potatoes for them here at MMC. I made oatmeal cookies!

Lights! Camera! Action!

Preparing to start an Arabic video shoot at Málaga Media Center (MMC) is not nearly as simple as saying those three words.

“Quiet on the set!”

“Is his mic on?” “Somebody check his mic.”

Native North African “David” fiddles with the electronics box for a lapel microphone clipped to his tie, flips a switch from “standby” to “on,” and his voice is suddenly heard through the speakers in the control room.

“Can we have a mic test? Just talk for a while so we can set the levels.”

“Ok that’s good, you can stop talking now.”

“Tell him he can stop talking now - we’re almost ready to start.”

The floor manager grabs David’s attention from the darkness of the studio; David nods back, smiles, and gazes calmly at Camera One.

“Teleprompter ready? Okay, roll tape!”

“Tape’s rolling.” “Whenever he’s ready he can start.”
